Hiddink is curious how Afellay is doing
Guus Hiddink today conjured a surprising rabbit out of his hat. The coach of Dutch Ibrahim has added Afellay to his squad for the friendly match with Italy and the European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic.
The former PSV player had since his move to FC Barcelona in the season 2010/2011 barely playing time, partly because of injuries. For the Catalans Afellay came only during 21 league games in action. During his rental period Schalke 04 he played ten matches.
"I want ten days to see how he is doing," said Hiddink, who gets Monday his squad for the first time together. "He has an unpleasant period behind us, but I think his lease to Olympiakos is a good move. It isn’t a small club, they play in the Champions League. The reason I have called him, has nothing to do with the fact that we know each other from my PSV-time. Ibrahim is - at least potentially - just a really good player. "
